Dr. Nathan Butterworth

Doctor of Optometry

Raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Dr. Nathan Butterworth attended North Carolina State University where he received his degree Magna Cum Laude in 2000. Four years later, he graduated from Southern College of Optometry. During his schooling, Dr. Butterworth completed externships with Campbell, Cunningham and Taylor surgery center in Knoxville, TN and Columbus Eye Associates in Whiteville, NC.

Following his education, Dr. Butterworth spent 12 years in Virginia, working in Chatham and Martinsville for Friedrich’s Family Eyecare. After relocating to Lewisville, NC in 2016, he continued his passion for helping those in need by volunteering as a board member for the SPCA of Martinsville and Henry County, as well as being a 15-year member in the Lions Club. 

In his free time, Dr. Butterworth enjoys sports, golf, and spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Kent Doub

Doctor of Optometry

Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Doub grew up in the Winston Salem area and attended North Forsyth High School. He pursued a chemistry major at the University of North Carolina at Asheville before heading to Memphis, Tennessee to study at Southern College of Optometry. He completed his training at Eye Care and Surgery Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma before returning home to Winston Salem.

Dr. Doub spent several years as a private practice optometrist, with a particular focus on pediatric optometry. In 2012, he joined the staff at Hawthorne Eye Associates, where his work centered on treating and monitoring Glaucoma, Cataracts, Macular degeneration, diabetic patients and other eye diseases, as well as managing post-op surgical patients. Dr. Doub became part of the Cardinal Eye Care team in August of 2021.

Dr. Doub has a history of community involvement, having previously served as president of a local Lions Club, held the position of clinic director for Winston Salem Industries for the Blind, acted as past chairman of the board for Forsyth County Department of Public Health, and served on Winston Salem Forsyth county school health board. He presently serves as a board member of Forsyth County Department of Health and Human Resources Board. Dr. Doub is also a member of the American Optometry Association and North Carolina State Optometric Society.

In his personal life, Dr. Doub enjoys traveling and has explored much of North America and Europe. He has traveled to south China to teach public health to the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and currently serves as a consultant. He also enjoys spending time on the water with boating, swimming, skiing, and snorkeling. Carpentry is a hobby of his, and he spends time in his woodworking shop. Dr. Doub loves being outdoors and spends time at his small farm, as well as going on camping and hiking adventures. He and his wife Joy reside in Pfafftown.
